CASTLE
The firm, with its restoration project at Saliceto Castle (Cuneo), won the Gold Medal at the 2010 "Domus Restauro e Conservazione" International Architectural Restoration Award.
The medieval castle of Saliceto features a stratification of construction phases, with stone, brick, and mixed-texture walls. The restoration aimed to preserve the material and enhance the clarity of the interventions. Some rooms, such as the votive chapel and the attic space, were left unused to preserve their historical value. Natural lighting was increased with new light wells and skylights. The main floor hosts a museum with 19th-century furnishings and decorations, while modern systems were installed without altering the structure. Chestnut window frames recall the original ones.
The most innovative element is the fourth technological tower, made of steel and ventilated wood, independent of the historic walls but in formal dialogue with the pre-existing towers, with a steel staircase and a glass elevator illuminated from above.
